Before You Begin
Before starting, make sure you have:
✅ Your Microsoft Office Home & Business 2016 product key
✅ A Microsoft account (required for redemption)
✅ A stable internet connection
✅ Administrator access to your Mac
✅ At least 6 GB of available storage space
Important
Office Home & Business 2016 is permanently linked to the Microsoft account used during redemption.
Be sure to redeem the product using the Microsoft account you intend to keep.
Step 1 – Redeem Your Product Key
Open Microsoft's official Office redemption website:
Sign in with your Microsoft account.
If you don't have one, select Create one.
Enter Your Product Key
Enter your 25-character product key, then select Next.
Example:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Follow the on-screen instructions until your product has been successfully redeemed.
Note: Once redeemed, your Office license will be permanently associated with your Microsoft account.
Step 2 – Download Microsoft Office
After redemption, you'll be redirected to your Microsoft Services & Subscriptions page.
Or visit:
Sign in using the same Microsoft account used during redemption.
Locate:
Office Home & Business 2016
Click Install.
The Office installer (.pkg) will begin downloading.
Step 3 – Install Microsoft Office
Once the download has finished:
Open your Downloads folder.
Double-click the downloaded Microsoft Office Installer.pkg file.
If prompted, select Continue.
Accept the Microsoft Software License Agreement.
Choose Install.
Enter your Mac administrator password if prompted.
Wait for the installation to complete.
Select Close when finished.
Step 4 – Sign In to Activate Office
After installation:
Open Microsoft Word.
You may be prompted to sign in.
Sign in using the same Microsoft account that was used to redeem your product key.
Office will automatically activate after sign-in.
Important: Using a different Microsoft account will prevent Office from activating.
Step 5 – Verify Activation
Open Microsoft Word.
From the menu bar, select:
Word → About Word
or
Word → Preferences → Account (if available)
You should see that Office is activated and licensed to your Microsoft account.
Your installation is now complete.
Troubleshooting
Office doesn't activate
Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that was used to redeem your product key.
I can't find Office in my Microsoft account
Verify that you're signed in to:
using the same Microsoft account used during redemption.
Installer won't open
Make sure:
Your macOS version is supported by Office 2016.
The download completed successfully.
You have administrator permissions on your Mac.
Activation still fails
Restart your Mac and open Word again.
If the issue continues, contact our support team with:

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install Office on another Mac?
Yes, provided your license permits additional installations and you sign in using the same Microsoft account used during redemption.
Do I need a Microsoft 365 subscription?
No.
Office Home & Business 2016 is a one-time purchase (perpetual license) and does not require a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Can I transfer my Office license to another Mac?
Retail licenses may be transferred according to Microsoft's license terms after uninstalling Office from the previous device.
Will I receive future Office upgrades?
No.
Your license includes Microsoft Office Home & Business 2016 only.
You will continue receiving applicable security updates from Microsoft while they are supported, but newer Office versions require a separate license.
