If you're seeing a message that another version of Microsoft Office is already installed, it usually means that an existing Office installation is preventing your new version from being installed.
This commonly happens when an older version of Office, Microsoft 365, or a pre-installed Office app is still installed on your PC.
Removing the conflicting Office installation usually resolves the issue.
💡 Before You Begin
Before starting, make sure you have:
✅ Administrator access to your Windows PC
✅ All Microsoft Office applications closed
✅ Your Office installation file or product key ready
Step 1 – Remove Existing Office Versions
Click Start and open Settings.
Go to Apps.
Select Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps & features (Windows 10).
Look for any installed Microsoft Office products, such as:
Microsoft 365
Microsoft Office
Office 2021
Office 2019
Office 2016
Microsoft Office Desktop Apps
Select the Office product.
Click Uninstall.
Follow the on-screen instructions until the uninstall process is complete.
Restart your computer.
Note: If you have multiple Office versions installed, uninstall all versions you no longer need before installing your new copy.
Step 2 – Use Microsoft's Office Uninstall Tool (If Needed)
If Office won't uninstall normally or the installation still fails:
Download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA):
https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPCRun the downloaded tool.
Select the Office version you want to remove.
Follow the prompts to completely remove Office.
Restart your PC when prompted.
Step 3 – Install Your New Office Version
After restarting:
Open your Office installer.
Follow the installation steps.
Wait for the installation to complete.
If you're installing from an EM Digital Group purchase, follow the installation guide included with your order.
Step 4 – Activate Office
Once Office has been installed:
Open Word, Excel, or any Office application.
Follow the activation prompts.
Enter your product key if requested, or sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Office license.
