Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro (2 Methods)

This guide explains how to upgrade Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro (Standard way and using Microsoft's official generic upgrade key)

💡 Important

  • This guide is only for PCs currently running Windows 11 Home.

  • The Microsoft generic upgrade key does not activate Windows. It only changes the Windows edition from Home to Pro.

  • You will need a valid Windows 11 Pro product key to activate Windows after the upgrade.

Before You Begin

Before starting, make sure you have:

✅ A PC running Windows 11 Home

✅ Your Windows 11 Pro product key

✅ Administrator access to your PC

Method 1 - Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro via Activation Settings

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows key + I.

  2. Go to System → Activation.

  3. Next to Change product key, click Change.

  4. Enter your Windows 11 Pro product key that you purchased with us and click Next.

  5. Click Start to begin the upgrade.

  6. Restart your computer if prompted.

Once completed, return to Settings → System → Activation and confirm that Windows 11 Pro is activated.

Note: If the activation did not push through using this method. Proceed to Method 2.

Method 2 - Upgrade through Microsoft Default Upgrade Key

Important: For the default method to work, please disconnect your computer to internet before performing the steps.

Step 1 – Confirm Your Current Windows Edition

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to System → Activation.

  3. Confirm that your current edition is Windows 11 Home.

Step 2 – Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro

  1. On the Activation page, click Change product key.

  2. Enter the following Microsoft generic upgrade key:

VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

💡Important: This is Microsoft's official generic upgrade key. It changes Windows from Home to Pro but does not activate Windows.

Disconnecting from the Internet prevents Windows from attempting online activation before the edition upgrade is completed.

  1. Click Next.

  2. Click Start or Activate when prompted.

  3. Windows will begin upgrading to Windows 11 Pro.

  4. Allow your PC to restart automatically.

Do not turn off your computer during the upgrade process.

Note: Windows will show you a message that shows "Unable to upgrade your Edition, We can't upgrade your edition of Windows. Try upgrading your edition of Windows again."

Don't worry, it's normal and the upgrade still works. You just have to click "Close" and restart your device to proceed.

Step 3 – Activate Windows 11 Pro

It is important to restart to see the changes. After your PC restarts, connect back to internet before trying to Activate it with your Windows 11 Pro license key.

  1. Open Settings → System → Activation.

  2. Confirm that the edition now shows Windows 11 Pro.

  3. Click Change product key.

  4. Enter the Windows 11 Pro product key you purchased from us.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Click Activate.

Once activation is successful, the Activation page should display:

  • Edition: Windows 11 Pro

  • Activation State: Active

If the Microsoft Upgrade Key Doesn't Work

If Windows does not accept the Microsoft generic upgrade key:

  1. Disconnect your PC from the Internet.

    • Turn off Wi-Fi, or

    • Unplug the Ethernet cable.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. Repeat Step 2 using the Microsoft generic upgrade key.

  4. Once Windows has upgraded to Windows 11 Pro, reconnect to the Internet.

  5. Enter your purchased Windows 11 Pro product key to activate Windows.
