This guide will help you install, upgrade, or activate Windows 11 Pro for Workstations.
Click on the one of the options below that best describes your current setup:

Before You Begin
Before you start, make sure you have:
✅ Your Windows 11 Pro for Workstations product key
✅ A stable internet connection
✅ Administrator access to your computer
✅ A backup of your important files (recommended)
Step 1 – Check Your Current Windows Edition
Before upgrading, verify which edition of Windows is currently installed.
Option 1 (Recommended)
Press:
Windows + R
Type:
winver
Click OK.
You will see your current Windows edition, for example:
Windows 11 Home
Windows 11 Pro
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 Pro
Windows 11 Pro for Workstations
Step 2 – Download Windows 11
If Windows is not already installed, download the latest installer directly from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
Microsoft offers three download options:
Windows 11 Installation Assistant
Media Creation Tool
Windows 11 ISO
Step 3 – Upgrade Your Windows Edition
Upgrading from Windows 11 Home
If your computer already has Windows 11 Home, there is no need to reinstall Windows.
Simply change the edition using your new product key.
Open:
Settings
→ System
→ Activation
Select:
Change Product Key
Enter your Windows 11 Pro for Workstations product key.
Click Next.
Click Activate.
Windows will begin upgrading your edition.
The upgrade usually takes 5–15 minutes.
Your computer may restart automatically.
💡 Good to Know
Your files, applications, and settings will remain unchanged.
Upgrading from Windows 11 Pro
If Windows 11 Pro is already installed, follow the same steps above.
Windows will simply unlock the additional Pro for Workstations features.
No reinstall is required.
Upgrading from Windows 10 Home
If you're currently running Windows 10 Home, we recommend upgrading to Windows 11 first.
After Windows 11 has been installed, activate it using your Windows 11 Pro for Workstations product key.
Upgrading from Windows 10 Pro
Install Windows 11 first.
Once installation is complete, activate Windows using your Windows 11 Pro for Workstations key.
Step 4 – Clean Install Windows (Optional)
If you prefer a completely fresh installation:
Create a bootable Windows 11 USB.
Boot your computer from the USB.
Click Install Now.
Select I don't have a product key.
Choose Windows 11 Pro for Workstations.
Complete the installation.
Activate Windows after setup.
Step 5 – Activate Windows
Open:
Settings
→ System
→ Activation
Select:
Change Product Key
Enter your 25-character product key.
Example:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Click:
Next
Then:
Activate
Windows will verify the license online.
After a few moments you should see:
✅ Windows is activated
Verify Your Activation
Return to:
Settings
→ System
→ Activation
You should see one of the following:
✅ Windows is activated with a digital license
or
✅ Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account
Troubleshooting
My product key isn't accepted
Please verify:
The product key was entered correctly.
You are connected to the internet.
The product key matches the installed Windows edition.
Windows is fully updated.
Windows won't activate
Restart your computer and try again.
If activation still fails, open:
Settings
→ System
→ Activation
→ Activation Troubleshooter
I installed the wrong Windows edition
Your Windows edition must match your product key.
If you installed Windows 11 Pro instead of Windows 11 Pro for Workstations, simply enter your Pro for Workstations product key under:
Settings
→ System
→ Activation
→ Change Product Key
Windows will automatically upgrade the edition.
I changed my motherboard
Replacing your motherboard or making major hardware changes may require Windows to be reactivated.
If your license is linked to your Microsoft account, you can usually reactivate Windows using the Activation Troubleshooter.
