Follow the steps below to restore your connection and activate Windows.

Before starting, make sure you have:
✅ A stable internet connection
✅ Administrator access to your Windows PC
✅ Your Windows product key (if required)
Why This Happens
Windows must connect to Microsoft's activation servers to verify your product key.
Error 0x800704CF usually appears when:
Your PC is not connected to the internet
A VPN or proxy server is blocking the connection
Windows network settings are corrupted
A firewall or antivirus is preventing activation
Microsoft's activation servers are temporarily unavailable

Step 1 – Check Your Internet Connection
Make sure your PC is connected to the internet.
Try opening a website such as:
If the page doesn't load:
Restart your modem/router
Connect to a different Wi-Fi network
Try using a mobile hotspot
Once your internet connection is working, try activating Windows again.
Step 2 – Disable VPN or Proxy
If you're using a VPN or proxy server, temporarily disable it.
Disable Proxy
Open Settings
Go to Network & Internet
Select Proxy
Turn Use a proxy server Off
Then try activating Windows again.
Step 3 – Restart Your Network Adapter
Press Windows + X
Select Network Connections
Click Advanced network settings
Select Disable for your active network adapter
Wait 10 seconds
Select Enable
Try activating Windows again.
Step 4 – Run the Windows Network Troubleshooter
Open Settings
Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
Run Network and Internet
Follow the on-screen instructions
Restart your PC if prompted.
Step 5 – Reset Network Settings
If the issue persists:
Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
Run the following commands one at a time:
netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
Restart your computer.
Step 6 – Verify Date and Time
Incorrect system time can prevent Windows from contacting Microsoft's activation servers.
Open Settings
Go to Time & language
Select Date & time
Enable:
Set time automatically
Set time zone automatically
Restart your PC.
Step 7 – Try Activating Windows Again
Open Settings
Go to System > Activation
Select Activate
Or enter your product key again:
Select Change product key
Enter your 25-character product key
Follow the activation prompts
Still Not Working?
If the error continues:
Restart your PC and try again later.
Ensure your firewall or antivirus isn't blocking Microsoft's activation service.
Microsoft's activation servers may be temporarily unavailable. Waiting a short while and trying again often resolves the issue.
