Overview
If you receive Windows activation error 0x87E10BC6, it usually means that Microsoft's activation service is temporarily unavailable or unable to validate your license at the moment.
This error is often temporary and may occur because:
Microsoft's activation servers are temporarily unavailable.
Your PC cannot connect to Microsoft's activation service.
There is a temporary network or DNS issue.
Windows activation is delayed after a recent installation or hardware change.
The Microsoft activation service is experiencing high demand.
💡 Before You Begin
Before starting, make sure you have:
✅ A stable internet connection
✅ Your Windows product key (if applicable)
✅ Administrator access to your PC
Step 1 – Check Your Internet Connection
Windows must be able to contact Microsoft's activation servers.
Open your web browser.
Visit several websites to confirm your internet connection is working.
If you're using a VPN or proxy service, temporarily disconnect it.
Restart your router if necessary.
Once connected, try activating Windows again.
Step 2 – Verify the Date and Time
Incorrect system time can prevent Windows from connecting securely to Microsoft's activation servers.
Open Settings.
Go to Time & language → Date & time.
Enable:
Set time automatically
Set time zone automatically
Select Sync now.
Step 3 – Try Activating Again
Open Settings → System → Activation.
Select Activate.
If prompted:
Select Change product key.
Enter your 25-character Windows product key.
Select Next, then Activate.
Step 4 – Run the Activation Troubleshooter
If Windows still isn't activated:
Open Settings → System → Activation.
Select Troubleshoot.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
The troubleshooter can automatically resolve many temporary activation issues.
Step 5 – Wait and Try Again Later
Because 0x87E10BC6 is commonly caused by Microsoft's activation servers, the issue often resolves itself.
If possible:
Wait 30–60 minutes and try again.
If the problem continues, try again after a few hours.
