Troubleshooting
Office shows the wrong version after activation
If Office still shows a different version (for example, Microsoft 365 or Office 2021) instead of your purchased edition, an older Office license is likely still installed on your computer.
We recommend removing all previous Office licenses before activating again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have a 30-day trial?
Microsoft Office includes a temporary trial period after installation. Once the trial expires, you must activate Office using your purchased product key to continue using all features.
Can I redeem my product key on setup.office.com?
No.
Office Professional Plus product keys cannot be redeemed at setup.office.com because they are not Microsoft account-based licenses.
Instead, activate Office from within an installed Office application.
Open Word or Excel.
Go to File → Account.
Click Activate Product.
Enter your product key when prompted.
Will uninstalling Office delete my files?
No.
Uninstalling Microsoft Office removes the Office applications only. Your documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and other personal files remain safely stored on your computer.
Should I uninstall previous Office versions first?
Yes.
We strongly recommend uninstalling all previous versions of Microsoft Office—including Microsoft 365—before installing your new version.
You can use Microsoft's official uninstall tool to completely remove older Office installations.
How do I pin Office apps to the taskbar?
Open the Start menu.
Locate Word, Excel, or another Office app.
Right-click the app.
Select Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start.
The Activation Wizard shows Internet activation instead of Telephone activation
If the Activation Wizard displays I want to activate the software over the Internet (recommended), choose that option first.
Only use Telephone Activation if online activation is unavailable or unsuccessful.
