If Windows blocks an app you've downloaded from the internet, you may see a message saying that the app isn't verified by Microsoft or that installations are limited to apps from the Microsoft Store.
This is a built-in Windows security feature. If you trust the software you're installing, you can change this setting to allow apps from any source.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
✅ Administrator access to your PC
✅ The installation file you want to run
✅ A trusted software source
Important: Only install software from websites and vendors you trust.
Step 1 – Open Settings
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Alternatively, open the Start menu and search for Settings.
Step 2 – Open App Installation Settings
Windows 11
Go to Apps.
Select Advanced app settings.
Find Choose where to get apps.
Windows 10
Go to Apps.
Select Apps & features.
Find Choose where to get apps.
Step 3 – Allow Apps from Anywhere
Under Choose where to get apps, select:
Anywhere
Windows will now allow you to install applications downloaded from trusted websites and other sources outside the Microsoft Store.
If You Don't See This Setting
Some editions of Windows (or computers managed by an organization) may not display this option.
If Choose where to get apps is missing:
Make sure you're signed in with an administrator account.
Check whether your device is managed by your workplace or school.
If you're using Windows in S mode, you'll need to switch out of S mode before installing apps from outside the Microsoft Store.
Still Can't Install the App?
If Windows continues to block the installer, the issue may be caused by your antivirus software or Windows security settings.

💡 Security Tip
Allowing apps from anywhere does not disable Windows Security or Microsoft Defender. It simply removes the Microsoft Store-only installation restriction.
For your safety, always download software from the developer's official website or another trusted source.
