Office Suites vs Microsoft 365: What’s the Difference?

Office suites and Microsoft 365 include many of the same applications, but they use different payment and licensing models.

Office Suites

Office suites, such as Office 2021 or Office 2024, are usually a one-time purchase.

  • No monthly or annual subscription

  • Includes a specific version of Office

  • Future major versions are not included

  • Intended for use on the number of devices covered by the license

Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 is a monthly or annual subscription.

  • Includes the latest Office features and updates

  • Usually includes OneDrive cloud storage

  • May support multiple devices

  • Requires an active subscription for full functionality

Which One Should I Choose?

Choose an Office suite if you prefer a one-time purchase and only need the included Office version.

Choose Microsoft 365 if you want ongoing updates, cloud storage, and access on multiple devices.

Always check the product description before purchasing, as included applications and device limits vary by edition.
